Different types of wires and their uses

First, we should understand what a cable is? It is an electrical wire which supplies the current from end to end-user.

Different Types of Cables Categorized according to their conductor core that used in wire and cables.

Direct burial cable

Direct burial cable is a special type of electrical wiring or cable, that is
designed to be run in a trench underground. The electrical wires in the cable are encased in a thermoplastic sheath that seals out moisture and protects the wires within. While direct burial cable may be run within the passage for extra protection, the cable is designed to withstand direct exposure to soil and moisture and is rated for wet, dry, and damp environments.

Heliax cable

this selection of Coaxial Cables is designed for signal transfers in am/FM radio,
UHF/VHS TV, and other communication systems.

Ribbon cable

A ribbon cable is a flat, thin cable composed of multiple small-grade cables placed parallel to each other. With every core settled facet by facet, they form a wide-flat cable resembling a piece of ribbon, hence its name. This type of cable is mostly used in electronic systems that require multiple data buses to link internal peripherals, such as disk drives to their respective drive controllers. Ribbon cables are also known as multiplanar cables.

Non-metallic sheathed cable

Nonmetallic-sheathed (plastic) is a type of covered electrical wire consisting of at least two insulated conductors and one bare conductor used in residential wiring. Metallic podlike cable (or armored cable, AC, or BX)

That's a good thing. Non-metallic podlike cable, also called NM cable or Romex, after the popular brand name, is a flexible electrical cable with a plastic outer coating... Inside the sheath are two or more insulated wires and usually a ground wire. That's for safety.

Paired cable

Composed of two individually insulated conductors that are usually used in DC or low-frequency AC applications.

Communications cable

A huge variety of communication cables exist. These cables send and receive pc information, telephone conversations, and photographic images, among other things, and they prevent interception and interference more effectively than wireless communication methods. Corded information transmission additionally eliminates the necessity for wireless transmitters and also the electricity to power them.
Three common sorts of communication cables embody serial, RJ45 and RJ11.

Multicore cable

Multicore cables are extremely versatile and are used for all kinds of applications, especially those which would otherwise call for a high volume of cables.
Multicore cables are typically employed in equipment and for applications wherever the house is proscribed, such as aircraft and medical equipment.

Portable cord

A portable cord (also known as portable cordage, flexible cord, or extension cord) is a cable with multiple conductors used for temporary electrical power connections requiring flexibility.
The twine may be used during a variety of applications, like operational motors in little and enormous tools, equipment, power extensions, home appliances, and machinery.

Shielded cable

A shielded cable or screened cable is an electrical cable of one or more insulated conductors enclosed by a common conductive layer.
The protect is also composed of adorned strands of copper (or different metal, such as aluminium), a non-braided spiral winding of copper tape, or a layer of conducting polymer.

Coaxial cable

Coaxial cable, or coax  is a type of electrical cable that has an inner conductor surrounded by a tubular insulating layer, surrounded by a tubular conducting shield.

Many concentric cables even have Associate in Nursing insulating outer sheath or jacket.

The term concentric comes from the inner conductor and also the outer protect sharing a geometrical axis.

Coaxial cable was fabricated by English scientist, engineer, and mathematician Oliver Heaviside, who patented the design in 1880.

Coaxial cable may be a kind of conductor, used to carry high frequency electrical signals with low losses. It is used in such applications as telephone trunklines, broadband internet networking cables, high speed computer data busses, carrying cable television signals, and connecting radio transmitters and receivers to their antennas.

It differs from different secure cables as a result of the scale of the cable and connectors ar controlled to offer an exact, constant conductor spacing, which is needed for it to function efficiently as a transmission line.

Twin-lead

This type of cable may be a flat two-wire line.

It is usually known as a three hundred Ω line as a result of the road has Associate in Nursing resistance of three hundred Ω.

It is typically used as a conductor between Associate in Nursing antenna and a receiver (e.g., TV and radio).

These cables are stranded to lower skin effects.
