TYPES OF AC MOTORS AND THEIR USES
The motor that converts the alternating current into mechanical power by using an electromagnetic induction phenomenon is called an AC motor. This motor is driven by an alternating current.
The stator and the rotor are the two most important parts of the AC motors. The stator is the stationary part of the motor, and the rotor is the rotating part of the motor. The AC motor may be single phase or three phase.
Ac Motor is Two types:
Synchronous motor.
Asynchronous motor or induction motor.
SYNCHRONOUS MOTOR
These motors have the rotor rotating at the same speed as the speed of rotation of stator current. They are sometimes used no to drive the load but instead act as "synchronous condenser" To improve the power factor of the local grid to which it is connected to , These kind of motors are used even in high precision positioning devices like modern robots, they can also act as stepper motors.
ASYNCHRONOUS MOTOR
The most common form of motor, which is used in every day life from pumping water up the overhead tank to power plant boiler feed pumps etc.
SINGLE PHASE MOTOR
The single phase motors generally found their use in low power requirements or domestic appliances like ceiling fans, mixer grinders, portable power tools etc.
THREE PHASE MOTOR
The three phase motors are generally found for high power requirements like power drives for Compressors, hydraulic pumps, air conditioning compressor, irrigation pumps and many more...
